Teaching Audio, part 14 -- Podcasts Galore, Networks and Best of Lists
Going back to podcasting now, as that's the buzz and what gets everyone excited ... the new free-flow genre, with no limits and no barriers to try. There are plenty of best of lists out there and what podcast to listen to depending on your interests ... Here below are several notable ones ... A lot of these are kind of self promotion and back scratching as well, or they come from apps listing their best of and promoting their own services which come with added advertisement ...

Podcasts are consolidating more and more into networks, kind of like labels for music, or cooperatives for farmers ... with different benefits and arrangements in these collectives. Some think it's great, others disagree. Here's a list of podcast companies and networks from wikipedia .... Then there are overarching institutions which distribute above the networks such as PRX .... Not to get too complicated, here are some of the major and talked about networks below ...

It's also possible to partner with public radio and non-profits, such as one of my favorite podcasts Reveal, which does so with PRX and the Center for Investigative Reporting. Also if you are a journalist within an organization, you can start an affiliated podcast there, such as has been done throughout ESPN for example. Here's an example of journalists at the Texas Tribune starting their own podcast.
Here are some of my favorites podcasts ... On the Media, because I love media information about media, the Reveal investigative podcast, which is short, incisive, and to the point, with lots of great reporting, BBC documentaries, because I love radio documentaries and getting to travel around the world with this series, 20-30 minutes long usually, just enough to clean my house, and the Tony Kornheiser Show, because I learned how to read English reading Kornheiser's sports columns, and still have a thing for DC sports teams where I grew up. Enough about me, though, here's a LOOOOOOOONG list of podcasts to delve into in no particular order ....
