Vernon, the smallest of Oklahoma's surviving All-Black Towns
As part of the Struggle and Hope documentary film/web project about Oklahoma's surviving all-black towns, here is a series of photos from the New Hope Baptist Church in Vernon, Oklahoma. The town, with a daily population of about 25, grows on Sundays with a vibrant service celebrating the church's more than 100 year history. The photos depict a baptism, ringing the church bell, singing hymns and praying by the church's very diverse community.
